![]() The Scots regiments' names are formed along the lines of "3rd New England Scots Volunteers", and it seems reasonable to me that some Scots regiments may prefer to give their names in Scots Gaelic, at least on any regimental colour they might fly.īasically, long story short, I'm trying to figure out what the Scots Gaelic for "3rd New England Scots Volunteers" is. Scottish immigrants make up a large portion of the immigration to America at this time, and several Scots regiments are formed. All the other numbers are the basic cardinal form with the suffix -te. In the case of 3, the correct ordinal form is dritte, not dreite. During the civil war new immigrants are given the option of being a solider, with the promise of full citizenship after the war is over. For the 1 (Eins in German), you use a different word form altogether ending in -ste. You see, I'm an alternate history enthusiast, and I'm putting together an alternate history world which involves a vastly different United States and, subsequently, a vastly different US Civil War. The main reason why I asked this question is for a rather strange reason.
